Life is short... The heating season is even shorter

Ever been in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)?

That place in your hospital where they treat people in very critical condition. I’ve been in that place only as a visitor twice before; once for my Dad, once for my Uncle and just recently I was visiting my step son.

If you’ve never been in as a visitor, consider your self very lucky.

It’s not for the weak.

What does this have to do with the heating industry? Plenty. Once you realize you’re not going to be on this earth forever it really makes you sit up and take notice of what you’re doing every single day.

I want you to take a second right now and take a deep breath.

What was your day like yesterday? How’s it been so far today? Is your business where you want it to be?

Feeling like you’re runnin’ and you’re not getting anywhere or you’re just not accomplishing everything that you should?

It’s no fun when you see other businesses racing ahead and it feels like you’re stuck in a big pile of thick gooey brown molasses. You know what I mean don’t you? If you’re like many other oil dealers, at the end of the year you count how many customers you lost and how many you’ve gained. If you’re lucky, in the big picture of your business you may have a net gain of a hand full of customers or so.

Life is to short.

Why feel like you’re the rat runnin’ on the spinning treadmill of life?

If you’re serious and you’re willing to take charge and get a different result… Then you need to do something different and fast. The easy way is to take a hard look at other businesses outside of your industry, figure out what and why they are so successful and apply that new found knowledge to your business.

Here’s just one example:

Ever hear of that monster coffee shop that became so successful it eventually went out and actually bought the coffee companies in South America that they were sourcing their coffee beans from?

They sure didn’t do that selling their own coffee on price. They didn’t whine that the guy down the street sold his coffee cheaper. He didn’t cry that coffee was a commodity and there was nothing they could do.

This company took action and simply out marketed the pants off their competition. If you haven’t figured it out yet I’m talking about Starbucks. They started out as a one man show in a tiny store front in Seattle Washington. Look where they are now.

How’d they do it? The short answer is marketing. They marketed based on delivering an experience that touched their customers on an emotional level. Starbucks doesn’t just sell coffee just like you don’t just sell heating oil.

They had a plan, they took action and they learned from their successes and their failures.

So if you’re wondering how next season is going to be any different then last season or you’re just to busy staying busy and not planning for the future, I’ve got news for you… the future is coming like a freakin freight train and you can either be reactive or proactive.

So stop just for a minute.

Right now, this very second, you need to be asking your self if you’re happy where you are and what you’re doing. Most importantly are you happy with the results you’re getting? If you’re not happy with your answer, then you need to decide if you are going to step up and take some action and make some changes.

I say today’s the day for you, I strongly suggest you give me a call and lets talk about how my team can help you and your family have a better tomorrow.

The secret is, always has been and always will be marketing. You can have the greatest widget, you can be the best in the world at what you do but if you’re not marketing that message properly you might just as well not exist.

I can help you find, develop and communicate that message. But it’s up to you to make the first move.

If you’re truly proactive you can get some consulting time from me for free. To learn how you can pick my marketing brain you need to drop everything and boogie on over to oil heat accountants secret finally revealed to learn how.

Remember, life really is short so the sooner you get going the better. Don’t you agree?

It’s your move.
